Camelina Oil: The Queen Of Omega-3s

Camelina oil, unfortunately, little known, is nevertheless the richest oil in omega-3! Also called “bastard flax,” “little flax,” or “German sesame.”

Camelina Sativa: The Plant

Camelina sativa is a plant from the cruciferous family, like rapeseed and turnip. Originally from Northern Europe and Central Asia, it is much less fragile than the latter and grows easily in France. Until the 19th century, its seeds were used to light lamps.

Camelina Oil

Obtained by first cold pressing of its seeds, previously cleaned mechanically to remove any impurities without using chemical solvents. It is a golden yellow oil, which develops an asparagus smell and flows directly. Its composition, rich in fatty acid (linoleic acid, alpha-linolenic acid, oleic acid) and vitamin E (natural antioxidant), gives it multiple properties. 

The first pressing produces an ideal oil for human consumption; the second pressing is used for breeding fish, especially salmon. This oil is one of the rare oils with an omega 3 level higher than that of omega six and with such a high vitamin E content. Namely: a tablespoon of camelina oil covers all of the recommended daily intake of omega-3! Today camelina is considered an elixir that lowers total and LDL cholesterol levels.

Its cultivation, abandoned in favor of rapeseed and sunflower oils, has been reassessed. Its oil improves the lipid profile and helps maintain normal blood cholesterol levels, reducing cardiovascular risk factors. It helps to calm sensitive skin and hydrates to the maximum!

Camelina Oil: Properties

Its rich composition of essential fatty acids helps repair cell membranes and regenerate skin cells. This nourishing oil takes care of mature skin, but it is also indicated in the case of wounds, dryness, or skin sensitivity. The vitamin E content also helps fight wrinkles and signs of aging.

Camelina Oil And How To Use It In Cooking

It is a very fragile seasoning oil (in vinaigrette or on food) that does not support cooking and must be kept cool. Remember to keep this oil in the refrigerator to preserve its nutritional qualities. Prefer uncooked first cold-pressed virgin oil (1 tablespoon minimum per day).

Camelina Oil Taste

It has a pleasant taste with notes of fennel and chervil with a delicately spicy finish. Its intense yellow color and delicate fragrance make it an excellent condiment to use as a daily source of essential fatty acids.

Camelina Oil And The Skin

Rich in vitamin E and phytosterols, this oil has softening and softening properties. It is also recommended for hair beauty. It nourishes and brings deep shine to dry hair. It protects fine and damaged hair and softens thick hair. Apply before shampooing and leave on for 30 minutes for optimal absorption. Rinse with lukewarm water.

Recipe For A Camelina Oil Conditioner

Here is our pre-shampoo hair balm recipe with camelina, coconut oils, and shea butter.

  1. 50ml shea butter
  2. 50 ml camelina oil
  3. 50ml coconut oil
  4. 15 drops of vitamin E

Preparation. Melt the shea butter in a bain-marie. Remove from heat, stir in camelina oil and coconut oil. Mix well, add the vitamin E. Stir again for 2 minutes, then pour the liquid into a 200 ml jar. Please place it in the refrigerator for 20 minutes without waiting to cool. This step makes it possible to solidify the liquid immediately and obtain a homogeneous consistency. Apply this balm to your wet hair before shampooing. Lightly massage the scalp. Then wrap the head with a warm towel and leave on for at least 30 minutes. Rinse with clear water.

Camelina Oil And Cancer

Extremely well endowed with omega 3, it helps reduce the risk of cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. In addition, daily consumption of at least 1 to 2 tablespoons of camelina, flaxseed, and walnut oil would provide better protection against breast cancer.

Recipe For A Make-Up Remover For Sensitive Skin With Aloe Vera And Camelina Oil

You can add preservatives to this preparation to preserve it from bacteria, molds, and yeasts, for example, inside. Ingredients :

  1. 30 ml camelina oil
  2. 25ml aloe vera juice
  3. 40 ml of rose hydrosol
  4. 30 ml of sterilized water
  5. Ten drops of vitamin E
  6. 30 drops of ecocide

Preparation. In a 125 ml bottle, mix camelina, aloe, rose hydrosol, sterilized water, and drops of vitamin E and preservatives. Tap the bottle to mix the 2 phases before use.

Camelina Oil Contraindication

Camelina vegetable oil is very sensitive to oxidation. After opening, it can be kept for 6 to 8 months in a cool place, taking care to close it well and away from light sources. It contains components sensitive to cooking; it is therefore recommended to use raw.
