Make Your Barbecue Sauce: The Quick Seasoning For The Summer

No more tubes – we want to make our barbecue sauce ourselves from now on! We’ll show you how easy it is in six delicious recipes (with and without yoghurt). With a good barbecue sauce, many a botched piece of steak or sausage can be saved. The spices are often the best thing about grilling.

The Benefits Of Homemade Barbecue Sauce

It makes a big difference whether you choose store-bought pastes or whether you make your barbecue sauce. In terms of taste and health, many ready-made sauces are full of artificial flavours, stabilisers, colourings, and sugar.

With a homemade barbecue sauce, you decide how much sugar goes in. You can also flexibly choose how hot the sauce should be. Even the quantity can be increased or decreased.

Adapt the barbecue sauce recipes to your eating habits. Those who live vegan, for example, use soy yoghurt and a plant-based milk alternative to classic cow’s milk.

Barbecue Sauce Recipes: Interchangeable Basics

In addition to homemade dips such as aioli, hummus or guacamole, most barbecue sauce recipes can be divided into two categories. Once red sauces are based on tomatoes, the light spices are prepared with sour cream, yoghurt, mayo, or creme fraiche.

It is usually enough for a delicious barbecue sauce to fold in fresh herbs (preferably from your garden) and season with salt and pepper. In addition to evergreen garlic, the following flavours are also suitable for spicing up the sauce.

Mediterranean Barbecue Sauce Spices:

  • oregano
  • thyme
  • rosemary

Oriental BBQ Sauce Spices:

  • (Cumin
  • pimento
  • nutmeg

Indian BBQ Sauce Spices:

  • curry
  • turmeric
  • fennel

Asian BBQ Sauce Spices:

  • coriander

Make Your Own Sweet Chili BBQ Sauce

Your grilled food gets an Asian touch when you dip it in a sweet and sour sauce. As with the barbecue sauce, you have to turn on the stove to make the chilli barbecue sauce yourself, but it’s worth it. It is best to pre-cook a large amount and pimp the wok pan with it in everyday life.

You Need These Ingredients:

  • 60 g rice vinegar 60
  • 90 grams of water
  • 50 g brown cane sugar
  • Two teaspoons of light soy sauce
  • Two garlic cloves (chopped)
  • 1 tsp Sambal Oelek
  • One pinch of black pepper (or cayenne pepper)
  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp water
  1. Put the rice vinegar, water, sugar, soy sauce, pepper and garlic in a non-stick pan. Melt the sugar over low heat, stirring constantly.
  2. Then turn the stove up to medium-high and let the sauce simmer for 2 minutes. Add sambal oelek and stir. Mix the cornstarch with one teaspoon of water until there are no lumps. Let the chilli sauce cook for 5 minutes until it is as creamy as desired.
  3. Rinse glass jars with hot water and pour in the sauce. Close with a lid and let cool at room temperature. The homemade chilli grill sauce will keep in the fridge for two weeks.

Tip: For a quick homemade chilli sauce, mix 60 g ketchup with 30 g honey, 1 tbsp rice vinegar and 2 tbsp soy sauce. You can also easily make ketchup yourself!
